The Hole House

The Hole House was an architectural installation located in Houston, Texas. Officially known as the ‘Inversion’ project, two sculptors, Dan Havel and Dean Ruck, created the work in 2005 using two houses that were slated for demolition.
With the help of Art League Houston, the sculptors used timber boards and scraps from the exterior of the two houses to create a large, funnel-like vortex between them, narrowing to a small hole at the end in an adjacent courtyard.
The exterior skin of the houses was peeled off and arranged in a narrowing spiral that gave the impression they were being sucked in by some kind of strange event – perhaps, as some observers suggested ‘a disaster of the space-time continuum’.
Unfortunately, the installation was only intended to be temporary, and was dismantled after a few months.
